Admission Requirements
The Department applies the following criteria to determine the appropriate classification for each applicant:
Minimum Admission Requirements
Grade Point Average (GPA)
- A 4-year baccalaureate science degree or its equivalent from an academic institution recognized by the University of Alberta
- 3.3 GPA on a 4.0 scale (B+ at North American Universities or its equivalent from other institutions) in the last two full years of undergraduate studies
Supervision
As the Pharmacology Graduate Studies program is thesis-based, applicants must have a supervisor and funding in place before they can be accepted into the program. Applicants must have previously corresponded with a Pharmacology faculty member and have agreed to a tentative supervisory arrangement. More information is available in the section “How to apply” below.
Acceptance by a supervisor does not guarantee admission into the program. The final decision is administered by the Faculty of Graduate Studies & Research (FGSR).
English Language Proficiency
Applicants with degrees in a language other than English may need to demonstrate English Language Proficiency through one of the following exam scores:
- TOEFL: minimum score of 600 (paper based) or a total score of 95 with a score of at least 23 in each of the speaking and writing skill areas (internet-based)
- IELTS: minimum overall band score of 7.0, with a score of at least 6.0 on each band
