Michael Giuffre, '77 MD, is the recipient of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada's Regional Mentor of the Year Award, Region 1.
Donald Giovanetto, '85 MD, has been named Regional Prix d'excellence--Specialist of the Year by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada.
Daniel Wegg, '77 MD, received the 2017 Paul S. Rhoads Humanity in Medicine Award.
Faculty Awards
Jacqueline Hebert, Division of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation, was awarded the Excellence in Leadership Award from the University of Alberta.
Tevosol Inc., founded by Jayan Nagendran, '98 MD, and Darren Freed, '01 MD, '09 PhD, Department of Surgery, has earned Startup Canada's 2017 Prairie Regional Award for Innovation. The regional winners will now be evaluated by the National Adjudication Committee, and the national winners will be celebrated at the Startup Canada Awards Grand Finale in Ottawa on October 19, 2017. Good luck!
Janice Richman Eisenstat, Department of Medicine, was honoured by Muscular Dystrophy Canada with the 2017 Outstanding Healthcare provider Award.
Jutta Preiksaitis, Department of Medicine, was recognized with the 2017 Clinician Recognition Award from the Canadian Society of Transplantation.
Shokrollah Elahi, School of Dentistry, was named Researcher of the Month from the Canadians for Health Research Organization.
Basil Hubbard, Department of Pharmacology, is the winner of the United States Special Operations Command (USSOCOM) Science & Technology Futures Challenge. This award relates to a proposal for advanced biotechnology that will impact the USSOCOM in the next five years.
Students, fellows and trainees
Congratulations to Taylor Nelson, MD class of 2019, on receiving the Alberta Medical Association's Dr. Michael Tarrant Scholarship in rural medicine.
Thomas Covello, third-year hematology resident, received the College of American Pathologists Foundation Informatics Award. The award will allow him to further study the role of information science and data analysis in health care.
Finola Hackett, MD class of 2019, has been awarded the The University of Alberta Canadian Medical Hall of Fame Award. Well done!
