Our History

The Centre for Literatures in Canada was established in 2006. University of Alberta alumnus Dr. Eric Schloss, writer, respected community leader, and noted bibliophile, recognized the need for an organization devoted solely to the study and promotion of Canadian literatures in their widest context nationally and internationally. Dr. Schloss proposed the original concept and vision for the Centre and, in collaboration with the Faculty of Arts, also provided the initial leadership gift. The Honorable Jim Edwards and Mrs. Sheila Edwards, the Schloss family, and Mrs. Anne Cooper also provided foundational support to the Centre.

 

Notre Histoire

Le Centre de littératures au Canada fut créé en 2006. Diplômé de l’Université de l’Alberta, écrivain, leader communautaire estimé, et bibliophile illustre, le docteur Eric Schloss constata la nécessité d’un organisme entièrement consacré à l’étude et à la promotion des littératures canadiennes dans leurs contextes nationaux et internationaux les plus diversifiés. Le docteur Schloss proposa alors le concept original de ce Centre et en fut l'idéateur principal. En collaboration avec la Faculté des arts, il offrit conséquemment une donation essentielle à la réalisation de ce projet. L’honorable Jim Edwards et Madame Sheila Edwards, la famille Schloss, ainsi que Madame Anne Cooper ont également apporté un soutien fondamental au Centre.
