Admissions
Each year, the Faculty of Law accepts 20 students into the Internationally Trained Lawyer Pathway. Applicants are encouraged to prepare for admission and submit an application as early as possible. Applications open on March 1st @ 12 PM MST every year.
Requirements
Applicants must hold a JD, LLB or equivalent degree from the University of Alberta or an institution recognized by the University of Alberta
Applicants with first languages other than English may meet the English Language Requirements based on the university they have attended or the country in which they reside (some conditions may apply). Academic records must be official copies submitted directly from the issuing institution. Additionally, they may meet the English Proficiency requirement by completing one of the following English language tests and meeting the minimum scores required.
Internet-based TOEFL Exam: A total score of 100 with a minimum of 25 in each section (Internet-based)
IELTS Academic Exam: Minimum score of 7.0 overall, with no band below 5.0
PTE Academic Exam: Minimum score of 68
Duolingo English Test: Minimum score of 130 with nothing below 105 in any subject
Successful completion of the EAP 550 course offered by the University of Alberta Faculty of Extension
Prospective students are encouraged to contact the ITLP Coordinator as soon as possible for further advising on meeting the English Language Proficiency requirement, as specific methods of document submission will apply.
If the applicant has not taken an accepted language test and English is not their first language, they must have their former institution send official transcripts directly to UAlberta for assessment.

Transcript needs to show 3 years of full-time instruction in an accredited institution with English instruction (ESL classes do not count), or a degree from an accredited institution with English instruction.
Documentation
Provide a valid NCA Assessment report showing required courses as well as law degree information.
Application
A $125 non-refundable application fee for new students is required, $75 for former University of Alberta students (who took at least one undergraduate class).
Application Status
Successful applicants will be notified by email when accepted for admission.
Students must confirm acceptance by paying a $5,000 tuition deposit.
Students who are not offered admission will be added to the waitlist in the order in which the application was received. Applications will be considered for admission only if all requirements are fulfilled.
