Ann Hall NASSH

Congratulations to Professor Emeritus Dr. Ann Hall, distinguished presenter of the Maxwell L. and Reet Howell International Address at North American Society for Sport History (NASSH) 2014.

Her address "Muscle on Wheels: Gender, Class, and the High Wheel Racers in Nineteenth Century America" coincided with Faculty of Physical Education and Recreation's 50th Anniversary. Both events were celebrated with a public reception hosted by the Faculty at the Hotel Colorado in Glenwood Springs, Colorado, on May 31.

Sport historian Dr. PearlAnn Reichwein opened the evening as master of ceremonies, assisted by colleagues Dr. Judy Davidson and Dr. Lisa McDermott. An array of new sport history and mountain studies books, authored by Dr. Hall as well as other scholars linked to the Faculty, were shared as exciting door prizes sponsored by University of Alberta Press and Dean Kerry Mummery.

Events were celebrated by two hundred international members of North American Society for Sport History (NASSH). U of A alumni and faculty present also included sport scholars visiting from Canada and Australia: Rob Hess, Stacy Lorenz, Don Morrow, Vicky Paraschak, and Kevin Wamsley.

Here's to the next 50 years!
