Annual Vacation Leave for Regular + Auxiliary Salary Employees
Vacation credits for a full-time employee will be earned for each hour of service and credited at the end of each pay period.

Annual Vacation Leave for Other Support Employees
Casual Level 1, Casual Level 1 Full-Time Student, Casual Level 2 and Interim Staff employees receive vacation pay at the rate of 4% of their total earnings (exclusive of overtime and call back compensation) for each pay period. Temporary employees will also be entitled to take up to 3 weeks of time off without pay as vacation following their first 12 months worked.
Auxiliary Hourly and Apprentices receive vacation pay at the rate of 6% of their total earnings (exclusive of overtime and call back compensation) for each pay period. The employee will also be entitled to take up to 3 weeks of time off without pay as vacation in each 12 month period.
Supplementary Tradespersons receive vacation pay as specified in the respective trade union contract.

Casual Academic Staff
Casual Academic Staff will receive vacation pay at the rate of 4% of their total earnings for each pay period.
When the employee has achieved 5 years of continuous employment they will receive vacation pay at the rate of 6%. According to Employment Standards, any breaks in employment of less than 3 months are counted in the period of continuous employment.
Annual Vacation Leave
The vacation year for management and professional staff (MAPS) is from July 1 to June 30.
Full-time
Continuing employees and temporary employees are entitled to an annual paid vacation based on:

- Employees who begin their employment after July 1 will get a pro-rated vacation entitlement based on 1/12 of their annual entitlement for each remaining complete month of service for that vacation year.
- Employees can continue to collect vacation entitlement during the top-up period of maternity or parental leave under Article 16.5 of the MAPS Handbook .
- All vacation schedules must first be approved by your supervisor.
Part-time
Employees earn pro-rated vacation based on the full-time entitlement.
Casual
In place of paid vacation days off, employees will receive vacation pay at the rate of 6% of base pay, paid on each pay period.
Carryforward
You must get the written consent from the Dean/Vice-President prior to carrying forward more than five days of your unused vacation time into the next year.
Vacation During Leave
Vacation is earned while on paid leave, with the earned vacation proportional to the length of the leave.
No vacation shall be earned during:
- leave without pay
- disability leave
- that portion of partial leave for which no salary is paid
Hourly Students will receive vacation pay at the rate of 4% on their total regular earnings each pay period. Vacation pay does not apply to Graduate Assistantships.
