Teaching Awards
3M Teaching Award
Since 1986, 3M Canada, in conjunction with the Society for Teaching and Leadership in Higher Education, recognizes up to 10 outstanding Canadian university professors. The 3M Teaching Fellowship is Canada's only national, interdisciplinary teaching award, and it recognizes teaching excellence as well as educational leadership. The award includes a citation and an invitation to participate in a three-day retreat at Chateau Montebello in Quebec.

Alexander Rutherford Award for Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching
The Rutherford Award for Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching was instituted at the University of Alberta in 1982 to recognize publicly teaching excellence by full-time continuing academic staff (regardless of seniority), to publicize such excellence to the University and the wider community, to encourage the pursuit of such excellence, and to promote informed discussion of teaching and its improvement at the University of Alberta. The Rutherford Award is the highest distinction in the area of teaching awarded by the University of Alberta.

Provost Award for Early Achievement in Undergraduate Teaching
The Provost's Award for Early Achievement of Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching was instituted at the University of Alberta in 2008 to recognize publicly the achievement of teaching excellence by full-time continuing academic staff within five years of their first university appointment, to publicize such excellence to the University and the wider community, to encourage the pursuit of achievement of such excellence among newly appointed academic staff, and to promote informed discussion of teaching and its improvement at the University of Alberta.

Faculty of Engineering Undergraduate Teaching Award
Selected by the undergraduate students the Faculty of Engineering Teaching Award is given each year to the top instructor in each Engineering Department. Prior to 1997, two separate awards were given to instructor in (i) Electrical Engineering, and (ii) Computer Engineering.
