One of the busiest weeks of the year at the U of A Bookstore doesn’t involve books at all - it’s the hoodie sale. A long-running annual tradition, this week is where students, staff and others in the U of A community come to the Bookstore to find the best prices of the year on specially designed green and gold apparel. I paid them a visit to check out what’ll be available, took some photos with the friendly bookstore bear, got a feel for the sizing of the clothing and learned more about the event.
What you NEED to know about the hoodie sale
From Oct. 7 - 11 you can get hoodies, sweatpants and t-shirts at a great price at the U of A bookstore in SUB on North Campus. There’s an Augustana pop up on Oct. 9 at the Augustana Forum.

Monday - Friday, 9 a.m. - 5 p.m.
Items available
Hoodies and sweatshirts:
- Standard sizing XS - 3XL
- Hoodies are green or grey, pullover or full zip
- Pullover sweatshirts are green or grey
- Green items have gold writing, and grey items have green writing: “University of Alberta”
Sweatpants:
- Standard sizing XS - 3XL
- Green or grey
- Green items have gold writing, and grey items have green writing: “University of Alberta”
T-shirts:
- Standard sizing XXS - XXXL
- Long-sleeved or short-sleeved
- A slightly lighter green, with gold writing; or grey with green writing: “University of Alberta”
I tried on everything and here’s what I found out
The hoodies are really comfortable
They’re a poly cotton blend, with a soft, brushed interior that is cuddly and warm –the sort of thing you can wear on its own on a nice fall day or layer under a jacket to stay cozy in winter. With both full-zip and pullover versions available, you can get something to suit your own personal style.
Get a matching set if you’re feeling fancy, or keep it casual with mix n’ match
If you want to go out in something comfortable but with outfit vibes, match up your hoodie and pants, either in green or grey. If it’s an easy, relaxed day, grab whatever - you’ll be comfortable in these.
The t-shirts are a great deal
I’m someone who loves t-shirts; I wear one almost every day and for every activity (sports: t-shirt, work: t-shirt, chilling: t-shirt, going out with friends: you guessed it, t-shirt), so I’m planning on picking up multiples of these. They’re snug enough to be comfortable, but loose enough that you could layer one over another. In both green and grey as well as long- and short-sleeved, there’s enough variety not to get stale.
Some fun facts about the hoodie sale
I asked the bookstore staff a few questions, because I wanted to know more about the hoodie sale, since it’s such an exciting and long-running event. Here’s what they had to tell me:
- The hoodie sale has been an annual tradition for over 20 years.
- Planning for next year’s hoodie sale starts just a few weeks after this year’s is done.
- The hoodie sale is the best price of the year available on official U of A merchandise.
Personally, my #1 reason for buying at the hoodie sale is that I’m able to get a good deal on quality, comfortable clothing that also helps me get into the GREEN+GOLD school spirit!. I’ve been wearing my green garb to classes, to study on campus and to U of A sporting events – I plan to continue doing so with the new additions from this year’s sale!
