Thesis Title: Homophobic and Transphobic Violence in Contemporary Ukraine: Victims' Experiences and Patterns of Policing
Bio: Prior to graduation from the master’s program at the University of Alberta (2019), Roman had studied sociology, philosophy and political science in Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv (Ukraine). His research domain includes a diverse range of problems on the intersection of sexuality studies and criminology, including the patterns of policing of gender and sexual violence, hate crimes, migrosociology of violence, man-on-man violence and sexuality and violence in total institutions, as well as French and continental critique of Anglo-American social theory and history of criminal justice in post-Soviet space. Roman currently works as an analyst and associated researcher for the Ukrainian Centre for Law and Crime Research, and spends his time between Montréal, Québec, and Kyiv, Ukraine, planning to reenter graduate school in the foreseeable future, after gaining some practical experience in the field of his studies.
