MA in Gender and Social Justice Studies (2019)
Capstone Project: Canadian Immigrant Policy, Multiculturalism and the Experience of African
Newcomers: A Feminist Perspective
Bio: Throughout the GSJ Program at the University of Alberta, Natalie studied the impacts of policy on
African newcomers in Canada. She gained insight and support from her supervisor to learn how
newcomers navigate barriers and obstacles through resilient modes of thought. As a research assistant she developed the skill set to question, analyze and organize data. She is currently applying these newly
honed skills in her role as Research Coordinator at a National NGO. Her goal is to continue to apply
research to both expose patterns of injustice and promote wellness through collaboration and strength-
based resiliency.
