Convocation '20: Kenna McDowell
Dr Michelle Meagher - 30 June 2020
Kenna McDowell wasn’t able to cross the convocation stage in June, but she did graduate virtually with a BA Honors in Women’s and Gender Studies. Reflecting back on her time as a WGS student, Kenna writes: “My experience getting a Women’s and Gender Studies degree has been wonderful! In addition to making me a better writer and critical thinker, this program has enabled me to see and interact with the world in new ways, and has provided me with invaluable insight into the systems and institutions that govern our lives.” As an Honors student, Kenna worked closely with her supervisor, Dr. Felice Lifshitz. Asked to reflect on her student, Dr. Lifshitz described Kenna as curious, responsible, a “born scholar and intellectual, as well as a wonderful caring person.” Kenna’s academic excellence in the WGS program made her the perfect choice for the Helga Dalman Memorial Award, which is awarded to the top graduating student in our program. Kenna is currently working as a research assistant investigating LGBTQ2 vulnerability in housing.
Congratulations Kenna and all the best for your bright future!
