On March 19, Danika Jorgensen Skakum became the first student to complete the thesis-track Masters degree in Gender and Social Justice Studies!
In her thesis, "Death Positivity and Death Justice in the Anthropocene," Danika drew on theorists such as Michel Foucault and Donna Haraway, as well as the death positivity movement, to bring critical insight and social justice perspectives to bear on the difficult topic of death in a time of mass extinction. The members of her examining committee (Chloë Taylor, Natalie Loveless, and Jan Jagodzinski) were impressed both by the quality of the written work and by Danika's oral defense of the thesis, and agreed that it was a "perfect pass."
Congratulations Dani!!
