Gender and Social Justice MA student Miraaj Yousif has been awarded the State of Kuwait Master's Award in Islamic Studies, which carries a prize of $6000. Miraaj is currently doing field research in Sudan for her MA thesis on popular attitudes towards (pre-)marital rape, with particular attention to the role that understandings of Islamic sacred and legal texts may play in justifying - and potentially can play in combating - the phenomenon. This research has also been supported by travel grants from the FGSR and the SGA. Congratulations, Miraaj!
