Laura Kipnis visits U of A

As part of the University of Alberta’s centenary celebrations, Laura Kipnis, cultural critic and professor in the School of Communication at Northwestern University, will be presenting “Self-Deception: Theory and Practice.” Kipnis’ lecture will examine our own investments in other peoples’ self-deceptions.

Scandal is one of few reliable growth industries at the moment, says Kipnis, author of several books, including “The Female Thing: Dirt, Envy, Sex Vulnerability,” and her lecture is sure to provoke. Kipnis has also published essays and reviews in magazines such as The Nation, The Village Voice, Harper’s, and the New York Times Magazine.
