Andrew Kirk Accepted into PhD Program
St. Joseph's College would like to congratulate Andrew Kirk as he embarks on a PhD program at the University of Alberta. Andrew has been a valued sessional instructor at the College since 2014, teaching CHRTC 100 The Bible: An Introduction, and CHRTC 264: Dimensions of the Christian Faith.
Andrew will begin his doctoral studies during the coming Fall term in the U of A’s Department of Secondary Education with Dr. Gregory Thomas in the field of science education. Andrew's initial academic training was in organic chemistry, after which he completed an M.Div. focusing on biblical languages and then an M.Sc in Chemistry. Recently, in addition to teaching at St. Joseph’s College, he completed a B.Ed. with a focus on chemistry and physical sciences in secondary education and has taught at various high schools in the Edmonton Public School Board and Elk Island School Board.
Andrew's research interests include wisdom practices and assessment in the context of laboratory science instruction, as well as the role of meta-cognition and history of science in student engagement.
