Jennifer Salameh is a Palestinian Christian student visiting Edmonton from Bethlehem University who is studying for a Master of Divinity degree at Newman Theological College here in Edmonton. In Palestine, she has volunteered for the past four years with Arab Education Institute, a Palestinian NGO which is a member of Pax Christi International, the Catholic Peace movement. As part of AEI, Jennifer has been involved in projects such as "Women and Youth Against Violence" and "Citizenship and Diversity: Christians and Muslims Living Together."
Jennifer has been studying in the Religious Studies Department at Bethlehem University for the past several years and has come to Newman in order to learn more about female leadership in the church. It is challenging to be a female leader in the Middle East, but she is keen to grow in her knowledge, share her experiences with others and gain academic qualifications that will open the door for her to be a leader back in Palestine.
Jennifer is able to study Theological Education in Canada thanks to a Women's Residence Bursary at SJC created by the Basilian Fathers of Toronto and a scholarship from Newman Theological College.
