Six students, accompanied by SJC President Fr. Terry Kersch and sessional instructor Dr. Mark Dickens, enjoyed a 3-week SJC course in Israel and Palestine: "Christian Scriptures in the Holy Land." During the course they learned about the New Testament, with a special focus on the four gospels and the Book of Acts, and visited sites connected with the life of Jesus and other events in the New Testament.
Sites visited included Bethlehem, Jerusalem, Caesarea Maritima, Mt. Carmel, Meggido (Armageddon), Nazareth, Cana, Capernaum, the Sea of Galilee, Masada, En Gedi, Qumran and the Dead Sea. Students reflected upon and journalled about their experiences walking where Jesus and his disciples had likely walked and seeing places where other New Testament events had taken place.
This is the second time that SJC has put on the Holy Land course and plans are already underway for next year's course. If you are interested in participating, please contact our Academic Program Coordinator, Sara McKeon.
