Dr. Flynn's book "Children in Ancient Israel: The Hebrew Bible and Mesopotamia in Comparative Perspective" discusses children within the context of religious practices in ancient Mesopotamia and Israel. Topics examined include pre-born children, adoption, slavery and childhood death. Broader themes considered in the book include religious practices in the home, the general value of children in ancient societies and the worship of YHWH in Israel.
