Catholic tradition has portrayed Mary, the Virgin Mother of God, as a model to women in the Church in various ways, which makes Mary a complex figure in the consciousness of females. A good deal of those portrayals circumscribe sexuality by the role of the woman in the world and project a female sexuality devoid of menstruation. In this presentation, she questions such portrayals of Mary and, effectively, notions of purity and female sexuality.
Dr. Doris Kieser is an Assistant Professor at St. Joseph's College specializing in sexuality ethics, feminist ethics & theology, bioethics, moral theology, teaching sexuality and theology, theological anthropology and the sexual body.
