Dear Friends,
On Saturday November 7, 2015, St. Joseph's College will be hosting its annual Ignite Gala at the Chateau Lacombe in Edmonton. The intention of this event is twofold: to gather friends together to celebrate the gifts of the College, and to generate support for the full development - intellectual, social, sacramental and personal - of St. Joseph's College students, staff and faculty at the University of Alberta.
This year's Gala is in support of St. Joseph's College Service Learning Program. Fr. Richard Rohr, ofm, eloquently said, "We do not think ourselves into new ways of living, we live ourselves into new ways of thinking." This active engagement is an essential component to the development of the whole person. During the academic year, the Service Learning program will provide students of the College with opportunities to serve at an HIV orphanage in Guatemala, a school for impoverished children in Colombia, a site of Christian Pilgrimage in France, and various local organizations such as the Mustard Seed, the Marion Centre and Catholic Social Services. The opportunity for students to engage Catholic social teachings outside of the traditional classroom setting creates space for transformative learning and challenges students to learn through experience.
