St. Joseph College Murals Competition
St. Joseph's College is holding a competition to commission a work of art on the two outdoor signboards on the west side of the building to provide a captivating visual representation of the College's identity and to build awareness of the College on campus.
The commission will be awarded in the amount of $2000 and is to cover all material costs and artist's fees. This competition is open to all University of Alberta students and alumni.
Important Dates - REVISED:
- Monday, August 12, 2013 at 9:00 am - Deadline to receive proposals.
- Winning proposal will be announced the following week.
- Work to be complete by end of September.
The space:
Two outdoor metal signboards (the blank side of each) on the west side of the building.
Each signboard is approximately 35" x 58" and the entire space must be filled. A site visit is strongly recommended. The artwork will be displayed indefinitely.
Guidelines:
The finished artwork must reflect the identity, mission and activities of St. Joseph's College.
Artwork must:
- Use a medium that is durable and sustainable in an outdoor space
- Use high quality non-toxic materials
- washable (possibly through the use of a clearcoat/etc.)
- applies to metal or to a weatherproof surface that can be affixed to metal
Possible Inspiration:
- the three key facets of the College: Campus Ministry, Academics, Residence
- past, present, and future of SJC and the UofA
- natural environment of surrounding area
- engaging, bright, uplifting, energetic
- considers the campus community who will see it
