Who We Are
The Office of Research offers support to researchers to increase external research revenue, particularly for interdisciplinary, large-scale, multi-partner, national and international research collaborations. The Office of Research works closely with researchers and research teams across the four faculties, the four Faculty Associate Deans Research, and the Research Partner Network.
Leadership
Associate Dean, Research: Joanna Harrington holds the Eldon Foote Chair in International Business and Law at the University of Alberta. A law professor for over 20 years, she is experienced in SSHRC grant adjudications, external fellowships, government secondments, and faculty evaluation. Her administrative experience includes a five-year term as an associate dean with the Faculty of Graduate Studies and Research, and she brings experience in international partnerships, with capacity-building project work with the United Nations Development Programme and past service as a legal adviser with Canada's Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade (now Global Affairs Canada). She has been a visiting professor at the University of New South Wales, the University of Oxford, and the University of Texas at Austin, the latter as the Fulbright Canada Visiting Research Chair in Policy Studies, and she is a past member of the Canadian Human Rights Commission.
Director, Office of Research: Oliver Rossier supports research by helping create safer spaces for complex conversations. Oliver has a BA in History and Political Science, and an MA in Communications and Technology. He has more than 20 years of post-secondary administrative experience - and has served on the University of Alberta Board of Governors and Senate, as well as several other local and national committees. Fun fact: Oliver is only ichi nensei (Grade 1) in Japanese, but can fold an origami bird behind his back.
