Wellness Matters
Why does wellness matter?
Student life comes with all kinds of stressors - from exams and assignments to finances and relationships. It can be hard to take care of yourself when you have so much to balance, but it is an essential piece of your well being and success. In fact, we know that students who attend to their wellness tend to do better academically.
How can you ensure you stay healthy?
- Get sleep! An adult tends to need an average of 7-9 hours of sleep per night. Sleep helps with memory, coping, and energy level. Try to establish a routine of going to bed and waking at the same time daily and ensure that your sleep environment is cool, quiet, comfortable and dark.
- Eat! We need food to feed our body and brain. Try to maintain a balanced diet and eat meals regularly.
- Exercise! Regular exercise can help with mood and energy level. Go for a walk, attend a fitness class on campus, play Frisbee in Quad, take the stairs instead of the elevator… just try to get that heart rate going.
- Socialize! Remember that it's okay to take a break to see friends, partners, and family members.
- Relax! It's hard to find time to relax when you're a busy student, but sometimes moments of rejuvenation can actually make you more productive. Spend some time watching a movie, listening to music, or engaging in a hobby that you enjoy. It's okay to take a break!
