Camrose Mental Health Program
Camrose is a middle-sized rural community that lays about 45 mins outside of Edmonton. It has a diversified Mental Health Service. One of the main pillars in the Mental Health Service is the 10-bed inpatient unit that operates out of St. Mary's Hospital. This is one of the few totally voluntary units in Central Zone Alberta and provides services to a myriad of mental illnesses that range from helping people overcoming life crises all the way to psychotic disorders.
It is also an example of a true shared model of care with the hospitals providing medical coverage to all the patients on the psychiatry unit. There is also ample opportunity to work with the different MDT members.
The other main pillar is the Community Addiction and Mental Health clinic that provides the majority of outpatient follow up and community engagement for our patients.
In Camrose the residents will be exposed to a unique opportunity to work in both a tertiary treatment center and then follow their patients in the community.
The clinic has support of a multidisciplinary team that consists of:
- Psychiatrists
- Nurses
- Addiction Counsellors
- Mental Health Therapists
There is also the opportunity to engage with the more diversified programs such as the complex psychosis program that has Community Treatment Orders, Long Acting Injectable clinics and a psycho educational group program.
