Faculties

The PHSA framework for precision health research and education at the University of Alberta is a broad endeavour. Academic members from almost all faculties on campus identify activities with the PHSA. Engagement of this multidisciplinary academic community is required to see the full potential of the PHSA realized.

Advances in computing power and science, particularly with respect to bio-informatics, artificial intelligence and machine learning alongside a massive growth in data availability, have created a second front of rapidly expanding innovations. With these advances come the potential to better target preventive, diagnostic, treatment and follow-up strategies, and opportunities to improve workflows and deliver more efficient and effective health care all while reducing the risk of unintended side effects. Inquiry is needed in the domains of other faculties to address key success factors: social acceptance, privacy, organizational design, labour force transition, and policy are just a few examples of where collaboration across faculty could occur.
