Undergraduate Program
GUIDELINES FOR UNDERGRADUATE STUDIES
The Department of Physiology offers a B.Sc. Honors Program in Physiology and a B.Sc. Major in Physiology. Both programs are offered in the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry through the Faculty of Science.
The Honors Program is designed to prepare students for advanced study leading to careers in academia, industrial research, or for entry into health-related professions. A choice of courses is available for students with interests in particular branches of the life sciences (e.g., cell and molecular biology, endocrinology, cardiovascular physiology, neurobiology and perinatal research).
Continuation and graduation in the Honors Physiology program requires a minimum 3.0 GPA, in the previous Fall/Winter. In addition, second-year students must present a minimum grade of B in PHYSL 212 and PHYSL 214 in order to continue, whereas students who are eligible to enter the program in their third year and have credit in PHYSL 210 must present a minimum grade of A- in order to be admitted.
Key differences between the Honors and Major Physiology Programs
- GPA required to remain in good standing in the Honors program is 3.0, for the Major program it is 2.0
- Honors students can take Physiology lab and research courses (PHYSL 310, 461, 463, 464, 467, 468, 469), Major students cannot.
- Honors students have priority when enrolling in 400-level PHYSL courses.
- Limited spots are available in both programs and there is no guarantee that a student can transfer between them.
