Emilie is originally from Montreal and she is pursuing her master's degree under the supervision of Dr. Jessica Yue. She is in the 2nd year of her program.
How would you describe your research?
I am currently looking at how glucocorticoids act in the brain, more specifically in the Medial Basal Hypothalamus, to regulate hepatic glucose production in both normal and pre-diabetic rats.
What inspired you to pursue your current research?
I have a background in exercise physiology and diabetes has always been a recurrent topic in the field. I have also always been interested in studying topics revolving around neuroscience and my current research nicely harmonizes both subjects together.
What impact(s) will your research have outside of your lab?
Targeting hypothalamic glucocorticoid action may have therapeutic potential to lower hepatic glucose production & restore glucose homeostasis in obesity & diabetes.
What advice would you give to someone that is just starting graduate studies?
Don't procrastinate…
What is your favorite place/thing to do here at the UofA or in Edmonton?
Running in the river valley or walking my dog at Terwillegar dog park!
