V E Henderson Award

Dr. Elaine M. Leslie receives the V.E. Henderson Award
Dr. Elaine M. Leslie, who has recently published in the Journal of Environmental Sciences (Roggenbeck et al., 2016), is the recipient of the V. E. Henderson Award from the Society of Toxicology of Canada. "The award is designed to honour an individual who has made a significant contribution to the discipline of toxicology in Canada". (STC, 2016)
Dr. Leslie is currently an Associate Professor in the Departments of Physiology and Laboratory Medicine and Pathology at the University of Alberta, Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. She is an Alberta Innovates Health Solutions Scholar and was a Canadian Institutes of Health Research New Investigator. She received her BSc in Toxicology from the University of Guelph and her PhD in Pharmacology and Toxicology from Queen's University. Dr. Leslie completed postdoctoral training at the National Institutes of Environ- mental Health Sciences, Research Triangle Park, North Carolina, Chapel Hill.
Dr. Leslie has a long-standing interest in the involvement of ATP-binding cassette transporters and phase II biotrans- formation enzymes in detoxification. The current focus of the Leslie laboratory includes understanding how multidrug resistance proteins (MRPs/ABCCs) and glutathione S-transferases (GSTs) are involved in the detoxification of arsenic.
