Practice Rooms Protocol
The Department of Music has 18 general practice rooms, six grand piano practice rooms, one graduate student grand piano room, one percussion room, one harp/organ room, and an organ/chamber music room.
Most practice rooms are equipped with mirrors and a music stand secured in the room. Stands should not be moved from rooms. It is recommended that each instrumentalist have a portable music stand for rehearsals in rooms when there aren't enough stands.
Practice rooms may not be booked but they are available on a first-come-first-served basis. Students may book other department rooms in preparation for recitals or juries by contacting Production & Operations. Note: There are NO practice rooms available for general students. You must be involved in one of our programs or in a Music Department ensemble to have access to a practice room.
All spaces must be left in the appropriate "neutral state" at the end of a practice or rehearsal. Please return stands and chairs to their places, switch off lights, and leave the door open.
If you choose to work after regular hours, please ensure someone knows you are working alone and in what location. Campus Safewalk service is available to all students after regular hours. Please call Safewalk at 780.492.5563. In the event of an emergency, please call 911 or Campus Protective Services at 780.492.5050. Emergency Phones are located in the Main Stairwell on each floor of FAB.
