Carol Thurgood

Carol Thurgood has taught instrumental music in the Edmonton area for 24 years. Her bands have achieved superior ratings in provincial festivals and her band program is highly respected in the community. She has been an active performer and brass clinician in the Edmonton area for many years, currently playing French horn in the Edmonton Winds and tenor horn in the Mill Creek Colliery Band. Ms. Thurgood is equally comfortable with orchestral or wind band repertoire and has performed with the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra, MacEwan theatre orchestra, Opera Nuova orchestra, Alberta Philharmonic and the Concordia College Orchestra. She has studied conducting with Frank Battisti, Allan McMurray, Gerald King, Denise Grant, Gordon Brock, Debra Cairns and Steven Capaldo.
Ms. Thurgood received her Bachelor's degree in Education, and Masters level diploma in Orff/Schulwerk pedagogy, and holds a Masters degree in Curriculum and Instruction (Music Education) from the University of Victoria where she authored "Historical Canadian Band Music: Two Marches for Wind Band" - two arrangements for the modern wind ensemble. Current research interests include demographics and diversity in instrumental music programs in Alberta schools.
