Voice Faculty Perform in "Drive-in Opera" Series

On Sunday June 20 Professors John Tessier, Leanne Regehr, two students from the Department of Music, Jihwan Cho (Dmus), Cathy Daniels (MMus), and Soprano Nichole Brooks performed in Edmonton Opera’s Drive-in Opera concert series. The concerts were held in the south parking lot of the Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium, where the attendees stayed in their cars and listened to the concert on their car radio or through the live sound system with the windows open. The roof of the Jubilee Auditorium was transformed into a stage and the singers performed a varied program with selections ranging from opera to lieder, folksong and spirituals, all themed in honour of Mother’s and Father’s day.. The concert was a great success and the audience showed their appreciation by honking their car horns after each selection. It was a wonderful afternoon of vocal music performed at 1pm and 3pm that provided the community with an opportunity to enjoy vocal music at a very safe distance during the pandemic. Perhaps never before were car horns and operatic arias ringing out in harmony on campus.
