After years of study and development as a professional singer, UAlberta Music alumna ('08, Vocal Performance) Tracy Cantin is enjoying the fruits of her labour. Having recently graduated from the Chicago Lyric Opera's Ryan Opera Center training program, with impressive experience to-date as a young opera singer, Tracy entered the Metropolitan National Council Auditions in January. Her stellar soprano performance landed her a $3000 cash prize and a spot to compete in the finals, which will be held on March 6th, 2016 at the Metropolitan Opera House in New York City, a world-renowned centre for the operatic arts.
Tracy is the only Canadian singer to advance to the semi-finals in this year's competition-a further confirmation of this young singer's talent, which has been described as a powerful blend of "agility, power and dazzling coloratura" (Chicago Sun-Times). Tracy has recently made critically acclaimed debuts with the Ravinia Festival, Grant Park Festival, Oregon Symphony, Illinois Philharmonic, and the Civic Orchestra of Chicago.
What's next for Tracy? Beyond the upcoming competition at the National Semi-Finals in New York, Tracy's schedule includes performances with the Slovak State Philharmonic, the Kingston Symphony and the Santa Fe Opera in New Mexico. She will also make her Canadian stage debut with the Edmonton Opera next season, singing Chrysothemis in Elektra on March 11, 14, & 16, 2017.
Wishing you warm congratulations on your success, Tracy, and best wishes in New York!
