Three current and former members of the University of Alberta Madrigal Singers were recently selected to sing in the National Youth Choir of Canada and the World Youth Choir this spring and summer.
Soprano Andrea Vogel and tenor James Frobb, both of whom have sung with the Madrigal Singers for two years, will be part of Alberta's SATB quartet contribution to the National Youth Choir, which is currently rehearsing under its guest conductor Ivars Taurins, director of the Tafelmusik Chamber Choir, to perform at the 2012 Podium conference sponsored by the Association of Canadian Choral Communities in Ottawa, May 18-21. This marks the first time more than one singer from the University's choral ensembles have been selected to participate in the NYC program.
An additional reason to celebrate is the news that recent BMus graduate in Voice performance Eve Richardson, a member of the 2010 National Youth Choir, was selected via a rigorous competition process as a member of the World Youth Choir, which is meeting for four weeks this summer in Cyprus, for an intensive period of rehearsals and performances in Cyprus, Greece, Turkey and surrounding countries in August. Eve, who studied in the studio of Jolaine Kerley at U of A, and who has been studying voice with well-known Canadian soprano Nancy Argenta and teaching in Victoria for the past two years, was selected as one of three new sopranos to join the 36 member choir from a list of over 80 sopranos from around the world!
Congratulations to all three singers - we are very proud of your accomplishments!
