Renowned Percussionist Ed Mann, lectures at U of A, inner-city schools

Ed Mann, world-renowned musician, percussionist, composer and self-described “gongolier” lectures this month on “Vibrational Sound Experiences: Healing Gongs and Found Objects Percus

Ed Mann, world-renowned musician, percussionist, composer and self-described “gongolier” lectures this month on “Vibrational Sound Experiences: Healing Gongs and Found Objects Percussion” at the University of Alberta.  

 

Mann, who has been playing music for over 50 years, and played with legendary Frank Zappa’s band for over a decade , will also collaborate with Sarah Pocklington of Asani and students at Inner City High, Boyle Street Community Services and Amiskwaciy Academy as part of his Edmonton visit. After the series of lectures at the schools, students will create and present a performance based on their learnings.

 

He will be in Edmonton from September 30 to October 23.

 

Mann’s visit to Edmonton is sponsored by the Faculty of Physical Education and Recreation and folwaysAlive at the University of Alberta.

 

As a sound designer, Mann has created digital content libraries and programs, archived sound patterns, and scored a variety of independent films. He is an award winning drummer and has released five critically-acclaimed CDs of original music. In addition, Mann is an active composer of music and sound and performs internationally as a performer, sound artist, consultant and workshop facilitator. He has co-produced and performed with the women’s Aboriginal group Asani.

 

His “Gongs and Resonance” presentations have been heard around the globe to wide acclaim.
