The University of Alberta provides on-campus housing options for graduate students. Students are responsible for arranging accomodation in a hostel or hotel from their date of arrival until their residence move-in date. The University
The University of Alberta is the third largest university in Canada and a major teaching and research university, with over 30,000 students enrolled, including more than 3,000 full time and more than 1,000 part time graduate students. The university was founded in 1908 and has a well established Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry. The campus is situated on the south bank of the North Saskatchewan River. U of A is in the top five Canadian universities in federal research funding. The university's libraries represent one of the major research libraries in Canada with over 3.6 million volumes and 18,000 serial subscriptions.
Research is a priority of this large Faculty with 20 departments, 10 divisions and 18 research groups. Basic scientists and clinicians within the Faculty create an outstanding environment for health research. Two new seven-story buildings dedicated to health research (Health Research Innovation Facilities) are currently under construction.
Location
Edmonton is the provincial capital of Alberta with a population of over 800,000. The city offers a wide range of cultural activities including museums, symphony orchestra, a ballet company, and several professional theatre companies. Edmonton has professional sports teams in hockey, football and baseball. There are several large parks near campus, as well as cross country ski trails, bicycle and hiking trails, particularly along the North Saskatchewan river. The Rocky Mountains, with excellent downhill skiing and hiking are three hours by car west of Edmonton.
