Dr. Cheryl Glenn
2010 Distinguished Visitor in Writing Studies
September 14 - 28, 2010
Writing Studies at the University of Alberta will host its first Distinguished Visitor, Dr. Cheryl Glenn, from September 14 - 28. Dr. Glenn will present a full schedule of public lectures, teaching and writing workshops, panels and classroom visits, made possible through the U of A's Distinguished Visitors Fund.
Dr. Cheryl Glenn is one of North America's foremost scholars in the field of Writing Studies. She is Liberal Arts Research Professor of English and Women's Studies at The Pennsylvania State University, co-director of Penn State's Center for Democratic Deliberation, and author of the landmark Unspoken: A Rhetoric of Silence (Southern Illinois University Press, 2004). She brings with her wide-ranging expertise and experience in the teaching of writing and the use of writing in the classroom at both the secondary and postsecondary levels.
Dr. Glenn's presence will offer educators, scholars and members of the public from across Alberta an opportunity to gather to discuss issues related to teaching, academic writing, and public rhetoric, and will strengthen awareness of the role that writing plays within all subject areas. Dr. Glenn will also be available to meet members of the public individually by appointment.
