Our own Claire Thomson has been granted a Fulbright Foundation Student Award (2016-17) to study in the Lakota Studies Department at Oglala Lakota College in South Dakota. Claire will be based in Rapid City, South Dakota for the duration of her Fulbright Award, where she will carry out research for her PhD dissertation on Lakota borderlands history as well as take classes at Oglala Lakota College to learn the Lakota language. This will facilitate her ability to use documents in Lakota and being in South Dakota will bring her closer to sources and Lakota communities. Claire is a PhD student in the Department of History and Classics at the University of Alberta, working with Dr. Sarah Carter. She is a non-status Lakota woman from southwestern Saskatchewan where her family farms and ranches. Please join us in congratulating Claire on receiving this prestigious award.
Congratulations!
