This presentation is an examination of fair dealing history before CCH, which will unearth the roots of current misunderstandings around fair dealing and illustrate the strong claim of legitimacy for contemporary uses where fair dealing tends to be disallowed.

Re-engaging Canadians with fair dealing: Fandom as stepping stone to copyright literacy
Fanworks including fanfiction are increasingly popular creative outlets. This session will look at the use of fanfiction to engage Canadian learners with fair dealing concepts, and at using fandom and fanfiction as teaching tools to engage students with fair dealing in the educational context.
