Community Consultations for Campus Planning (legislated process)
The University of Alberta collaborates with neighbouring communities, the City of Edmonton and the Government of Alberta to ensure community consultation is respectful and transparent while meeting the university's primary goal of achieving its academic vision. Community Relations is charged with ensuring the delivery of an effective and meaningful legislated consultation process. Reliable information generated from the consultations is provided to the university's Board of Governors, who hold decision-making responsibilities.
We are here to help stakeholders understand the university's plans and processes. We provide resources such as campus planning tools and principles that guide land use amendments and substantial development projects. We adhere to the protocols in the Post- Secondary Learning Act, operationalized in Appendix XVIII of the Long Range Development Plan. We communicate consultation opportunities and materials for review so that stakeholders can be engaged throughout the process.
