20 August 2024
Please join the Department of East Asian Studies and the Department of English and Film Studies in welcoming Dr. Alexa Alice Joubin for a public lecture entitled "Generative AI as the Publics’ Shadow in Heterotopia" on Tuesday, August 27 at 11 a.m. MST in Henderson Hall, Rutherford Library South. Dr. Joubin is a scholar whose expertise spans almost every discipline in the humanities, and is a professional committed both to non-Western studies (especially East Asian Studies) and gender studies.
Outputs by generative artificial intelligence (AI) tools such as ChatGPT are a form of theatrical performance. AI draws on users’ prompts and the publics’ collective memories to produce ad-hoc performances for its user-audiences. Dr. Joubin brings performance studies and interface theories to the study of AI and the humanities.
