2019 Faculty of Arts Teaching Award Recipients
EFS proudly announces that four instructors in our department have been named as Faculty of Arts Teaching Award winners for the 2018-19 academic year. English PhD candidates Nick Beauchesne, Amanda Daignault, and Meredith Snyder have each received a Faculty of Arts Graduate Student Teaching Award in recognition of their exceptional work in the classroom. Dr. Kristine Smitka has received a Faculty of Arts Academic Teaching Staff award.
All four are inspired teachers. Nick Beauchesne is noted by his students as an "outstanding instructor" who he is "passionate about what he teaches." Amanda Daignault's students observe her generosity and hard work building a supportive and effective learning environment in her classes, as well as her commitment to ensuring the development of skills in reading and writing. Meredith Snyder is an instructor whose students appreciate her commitment to finding ways to make her classrooms open and welcoming spaces for the expansion of their writing skills and their knowledge. Well-known in this department as an accomplished and effective teacher, Dr. Smitka's students describe her as knowledgeable, caring, challenging, thoughtful, and encouraging.
Congratulations to these four brilliant teachers who have shown themselves to be dedicated to enriching the undergraduate student experience and to fostering student engagement and success. The Faculty of Graduate Studies and Research will celebrate the accomplishments of the Graduate Student Teaching Award winners in April, with a standing reception and a short program where students will receive their official certificate signed by President Turpin and Interim Dean Burshtyn. All the instructors will be honoured at the Faculty of Arts Celebration of Excellence in May.
