ENGL 210 B1: Reading Histories: Histories in Texts

S. Krotz

This course introduces students to the critical concepts and methods for reading literary texts historically, emphasizing the relationship between representation and history. This year, we will focus in particular on the relationship between literature and environmental history. Topics will include, but are not necessarily limited to: romanticism and the development of ecology, nature writing and ecocriticism, and fictional responses to climate change. Students can expect to read a mix of poetry, prose, literary criticism, and theory.
