Master of Science (MSc)
The Master of Science degree is a research-intensive program. Students are required to complete a minimum of 15 units in coursework and a thesis. The minimum period of residence is two consecutive four-month terms of full-time attendance at the University of Alberta.
The basic requirements of the MSc program are:
- Completion of FGSR Ethics requirement
- At least five ★3 graduate-level courses achieving a minimum GPA of 3.0 (see Course Requirements)
- A majority of these courses should be graduate-level courses offered by the Department of Electrical and Computer engineering.
- The courses selected may include a graduate-level reading course or a 400-level undergraduate course recommended by the supervisor and approved by the Associate Chair - Graduate.
- Completion of FGSR Professional Development requirement
- Deliver a graduate seminar on the thesis topic
- An MSc thesis
- The thesis should "...reveal that the candidate is able to work in a scholarly manner and is acquainted with the principal works published on the subject of the thesis. As far as possible it should be an original contribution." (section 203.11 of the U. of A. Calendar)
