Funding
All applicants are automatically considered by the Department for teaching and research assistantships; there is no separate application. Funding offers are made on the basis of previous scholastic standing; financial need is not a consideration. Offers of funding will be sent to selected applicants within 2 months of the application deadline. This is a separate offer from the Offer of Admission. Due to limited funding it is not possible to offer financial assistance to all admitted applicants. There is no guarantee of funding. Students must maintain a 3.5 cumulative GPA to ensure continued funding.
A full-time assistantship requires students work 12 hours per week. Full-time assistantships run from September to April. Provided funds are available, doctoral students who were funded during the previous September-April period may be provided funding for the first spring-summer period while studying for and writing comprehensive examinations.
International students who have accepted a teaching or research assistantship are required to submit to the Department a copy of their study permit* and SIN before payment of the assistantship can be authorized.
*Note - the study permit must indicate the student is able to work on campus.
