Dr. Arturo Sanchez Azofeifa

In 2020, Costa Rica's government created a medal to celebrate the 100 years of diplomatic relations between Costa Rica and Canada. This commemorative medal is given once a year to a institution, NGO or person that has contributed to strengthening the relationship between our two countries.

This year (2022), the Commemorative Medal was presented to Mr. Bill Flanagan president of the University of Alberta and to the University, in recognition and gratitude for the actions carried out by Mr. Flanagan and the University that strengthen the cooperative relations between both countries and that for more than 20 years has developed scientific and social programs in Central America.

Also, the Commemorative Medal was presented to Dr. Sanchez Azofeifa, given his sustained contribution to Costa Rican science and policy making over 25 years and for his efforts to build collaborations between two countries.

It is my pleasure to present Dr. Sanchez Azofeifa,  with the 2022 Costa Rica - Canada Commemorative Medal with the following citation "for your sustained contribution to understanding the impact of climate change in Costa Rico's tropical dry forests, and support to conservation policy making in the country."
