ABBEDAM mounts Angels in America, Part One: Millennium Approaches

The University of Alberta Drama student company, ABBEDAM Productions, is marking its 20th production this year with the mounting of the Pulitzer prize-winning play Angels in America, Part One: Millennium Approaches by Tony Kushner (which coincidentally celebrates its 20th anniversary this year).

ABBEDAM mounts Pulitzer-winning Angels in America, Part One: Millennium Approaches


Edmonton, AB - The University of Alberta Drama student company, ABBEDAM Productions, is marking its 20th production this year with the mounting of the Pulitzer prize-winning play Angels in America, Part One: Millennium Approaches byTony Kushner (which coincidentally celebrates its 20th anniversary this year). "A Gay Fantasia on National Themes," Angels in America explores sexuality, gender, race, relationships, love, and politics through the lens of the AIDS crisis in New York City, 1985.

An amalgamation of the letter in BA, BEd, and MA, ABBEDAM is an extra-curricular production company made up of BA, BA Honors, BEd and MA Drama students at the University of Alberta. The goal of the company is to provide learning and performance opportunities, and give students exposure in the University of Alberta's Department of Drama and the greater Edmotnon theatre community. Held in November each year, productions are typically large-cast ensemble plays, enabling as many students as possible to be involved in the cast and production crew.

Directed by recent BA Honors (Drama) graduate Nick Eaton, Angels in America runs November 13 - 17, 2013 at 7:30 pm in the Second Playing Space at the University of Alberta's Timms Centre for the Arts (87 Avenue & 112 Street, University of Alberta North Campus).There is a preview performance on Tuesday, November 12 at 7:30 p.m. and a matinee performance on Sunday, November 17 at 12:30 p.m., followed by a talk-back session with the director, dramaturgy team, and members of the cast.

Tickets are $10 for students and seniors ($5 for previews), and $15 for adults ($10 for preview) on-sale November 4th, available weekdays on the second floor of the Fine Arts Building on the University of Alberta North campus from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. A number of tickets will be available at the door, or can be reserved by emailing: abbedam@gmail.com
