Looking for research opportunities and resources? The Undergraduate Research Involvement Fair is your chance to connect with researchers, funding agencies, and other organizations that work with undergraduate (and prospective graduate) researchers.

Visit our exhibitors on Thursday, March 14 from 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. on the main floor of the Students' Union Building (SUB) to learn more about research opportunities, funding opportunities and other ways that you can get involved in undergraduate research!

Alberta Health Services - Glenrose Research and Innovation Team: The Glenrose Research and Innovation team within Alberta Health Services strives to use technology to solve healthcare challenges. Undergraduate engineering students provide critical contributions in the design, prototype development, implementation and evaluation of products and processes.
Alberta Public Interest Research Group (APIRG): APIRG is a student-run student-funded non-profit that for 20 years has been providing $50k per year in grants and free educational workshops/events to students wanting to develop their social justice and anti-oppression education and action. We will bring materials from groups we are funding in the areas of Palestinian liberation, anti-racism organizing, food justice, feminism, anti-colonialism and indigenous resistance, climate justice and more, including a sign-up form to recieve our fee anti-oppression 101 Workshop to provide to your student group/movement/research group etc.
Constellations Undergraduate Journal: We are an undergraduate student journal focused on historical and classical scholarship. We accept a broad variety of papers, with the aim of providing many students with the opportunity to experience the process of peer review and publication.
Elko Engineering Garage: The Elko Engineering Garage is a makerspace on the 2nd floor of ETLC where makers can learn about various fabrication equipment and book the equipment for their projects afterward. The makerspace is available to all University of Alberta students and staff to work on their personal, extracurricular, course, or research projects.
Eureka Undergraduate Science Journal: Eureka is a science journal that publishes primary research, review papers, and editorials from undergraduate students across Canada. We also host an annual research symposium where students can present their work, similar to FURCA, as well as other opportunities including cover photo contests and student researcher spotlights.
Faculty of Graduate & Postdoctoral Studies: Offering students an opportunity to know we offer graduate programs and directing them to departments that offer the degree they are interested in pursuing.
I-STEAM Pathways Indigenous Summer Internships in Environmental Research: Provides 4 months fully paid research experience and mentorship in environmental fields including science, environmental engineering, forestry, agriculture, icefields, environmental law or policy for First Nations, Métis and Inuit undergraduate students. Projects may include field work (e.g., water monitoring, measuring beetle impacts), lab work (e.g., development of sensoring tools, wildfire smoke), or policy development.
ICE Engineering Incubator: The Innovation, Creativity, and Entrepreneurship Program is an initiative comprising curricular, co-curricular, and extra-curricular entrepreneurial resources developed by the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Alberta. The ICE Technology Incubator is part of our experiential learning offerings and integrates with campus maker spaces to provide a dedicated space for ALL students, staff, and recent alumni interested in commercializing technology and launching new start-ups and social ventures.
Imagination Centre Brain-Computer Interface (BCI) Program: The Imagination Centre Brain-Computer Interface (BCI) Program is an integrated clinical and research program based out of the Glenrose Rehabilitation Hospital. Using BCI technology, we provide individuals with neuromotor impairments opportunities to increase their independence and enhance their participation in daily activities.
Indigenous Services Canada: Indigenous Services Canada (ISC) is a federal government department in Canada that works to improve the quality of life for Indigenous peoples by supporting self-determination, community development, and the delivery of essential services. The department plays a key role in addressing the unique needs and challenges faced by Indigenous communities across the country. We will be talking about our First Student Work Experience Program (FSWEP)
Mitacs: Mitacs is an independent national not-for-profit organization. For 25 years it has been helping to recognize and build relationships between industry and academia. A variety of programs that undergrads can use to benefit from matching funds will be presented at the fair. More: https://www.mitacs.ca/
NeurAlbertaTech: We are Alberta's leading neurotechnology innovator network, promoting education and professional development in the brain-computer interface (BCI) space. Our programs include workshops and competitions to empower innovators to develop practical neurotechnology skills, as well as speaker and networking events, to foster a vibrant, diverse nexus of neurotech collaborators.
Sociology Undergrad Student's Association: We are INVOKE, the Sociology Undergraduate Student's Association's student-run journal. We will be spreading information on the journal overall as well as our past and upcoming volumes.
Spectrum: Spectrum is a multi-disciplinary undergraduate research journal that provides opportunities for students to publish their work, or gain experience as student editors or peer reviewers.
Student Team for Alberta Rocketry Research: The Student Team for Alberta Rocketry Research (STARR) is an engineering student project group that designs, manufactures, and launches high-powered sounding rockets in intercollegiate competitions. We accept students from all faculties and offer hands-on experience on our mechanical, avionics, software, testing, payload, recovery, and marketing teams.
University of Alberta International: University of Alberta International encourages and facilitates connections for all members of the U of A community to engage on the global scale, in support of the creation of an internationally vibrant learning and research environment. Our organization offers a variety of research opportunities abroad in which undergraduate students can participate.
University of Alberta, Campus Saint-Jean: Campus Saint-Jean is the French faculty of the University of Alberta. We will be promoting our undergraduate research initiative at the faculty level. Details to follow.
