Group Therapy
Counselling + Clinical Services Clinic Flooding
Updated: December 5, 2024
Due to emergency repairs, our clinicians are currently working virtually this month. Our reception desk is moved to SUB 2-703 and is staffed from 8 a.m. - 4 p.m. If you have an appointment booked in December, please check your email for instructions.
Our team is working hard to reach out to students as soon as possible. Call 780-492-5205 to reach us during business hours. Thank you for your understanding!
Group therapy lets you connect with other students going through similar challenges in a safe, confidential space. Our psychologists offer therapy groups for common mental health concerns such as depression and anxiety, and support groups for international students and graduate students.
Groups typically have an educational component that teaches skills and strategies. They also provide an opportunity for students to share experiences, give and receive social support and build trust. Groups generally run once a week for 4-8 weeks.

fall 2024 Therapy Groups
Emotion Regulation Skills
The Emotion Regulation Group was created to help students manage or influence which emotions they have, when they have them, and how they experience and express emotions. As humans, we will never have complete control over what we feel, but we have a lot more influence over how we feel than we might think. When we manage or regulate our emotions, we can steer and direct how we feel and react. This 6-week group program will offer a mixture of psycho-educational support and skill building elements to help you understand and accept your emotions, reduce their emotional vulnerability and volatility, and decrease emotional suffering. Each week, skills are taught to help you manage emotions instead of being managed by them. As you learn each piece and practice it, you are putting another building block into the structure of your own emotion regulation, learning little by little how to handle negative emotions and how to build positive ones. Sharing your personal experiences and getting support and input from fellow group members and the facilitators is also a key part of this group experience.
