*ORACLE's DBMS and development tools have been made available to the Department of Computing Science through ORACLE's Academic Alliance Program. This program allows the Department of Computing Science access to all of ORACLE's products for teaching and education purposes. The Department pays a small maintenance cost annually for access to this program. We wish to acknowledge ORACLE's generosity with regards to the Academic Alliance Program and we wish to acknowledge the University of Alberta's Computing and Network Services department for negotiating this program with ORACLE.

Lab Hours of Operation
Undergraduate labs (CSC 105, 121, 125, 129, 153, 159, 167, 219; CAB 311) are open and available for use 24 hours a day, 7 days a week during the fall and winter terms. However, the main doors to the various buildings (CAB and CSC) are not controlled by the Department of Computing Science. So while students are free to use the labs at any time during fall and winter terms, the outside doors to the buildings are locked at night and on holidays. Students need to make their own arrangements in these circumstances. It is not the responsibility of the lab admin staff to help students gain access to the buildings when they are locked.
What to do if a lab is locked
Sometimes labs which are normally unlocked, are locked. Either labadmin has intentionally locked the lab for maintenance or someone else has accidentally locked it. If labadmin is doing maintenance there will be a notice on the door with an explanation and contact information. In addition if the maintenance is scheduled there will be an email notice sent prior to the closure. If a lab is locked without explanation, please contact the Help Desk and we will try to resolve the problem as quickly as we can.
Normal System Outage Period
During the fall and winter terms students can expect the undergraduate systems to be available on a 24x7 basis except for:
Wednesday mornings from 9:00 am to 1pm
This time period is reserved for system administration functions which include updating the operating system on each workstation and server. This requires a reboot in some instances. Students are welcome to use lab machines during this period but they should be aware that the machine they are working on may be rebooted during this period.
