Online Program
The University of Alberta MBA can be completed through a combination of online and in-person study.
Online Courses
Online courses are offered both synchronously and asynchronously. Asynchronous courses have been specifically designed to maximize learning outcomes. With course materials and lectures available on demand, you are able to learn on your own schedule from anywhere. However, you can expect in most cases that assignments and exams will be due at set times over the term. Courses are intended to be completed gradually over the length of the term.
Evening Courses
In-person courses in the part-time program are offered primarily during weekday evenings. Classes run from 6 - 9 PM or 6:30 - 9:30 PM, one night per week over the Fall and Winter semesters. Most students will take two courses during both the Fall and Winter terms, although it is possible to speed up the program by taking more than two courses per term. Evening courses during the Spring and Summer terms run from 6 - 9 PM or 6:30 - 9:30 PM two nights a week.
One-Week & Intensive Courses
In addition to evening courses, there are also one-week & intensive courses offered during the program. One-week courses are primarily offered over the Spring and Summer terms. Intensive courses offered over two weekends of study are offered throughout the year. Both one-week and intensive courses are full 3-credit courses that offer the same contact hours as our evening courses. Without compromising the educational experience, the one-week and intensive courses allow you to immerse yourself in the subject at hand while speeding up the completion of your MBA.
Typical Pathway
At this time, we do not recommend students looking for a fully online or remote program to apply to the University of Alberta MBA program. The course schedule is designed for students to be able to complete a mixture of online (synchronous and asynchronous) courses and in-person courses.
Course registration is flexible and students are able to choose their path forward. Potential applicants are encouraged to review our existing course timetables to see what courses are available online and which are offered in-person.
